UDG receives awards for its work for Porsche
UDG United Digital Group received a gold award in the Communication category at the iF DESIGN AWARD competition on Friday for the campaign it produced for Porsche titled “The exceptional. 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.“
The highly limited 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is exceptional in every way. With just 500 such vehicles being manufactured, only a handful of people will ever experience them on the road. This makes the opportunity to nonetheless discover the sports car live from anywhere in the world just that much more incredible.
The heart of the campaign consisted of a unique livestream that could be viewed in June/July 2017. Giving commands via the internet, one user at a time was able to guide two industrial robots with cameras in order to personally discover this special sports car staged at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen from any angle they wanted and share these images live with other enthusiasts around the world. Apart from the complete maneuverability of the industrial robots freely about the space, it was also the first time that the robots, which in their normal working environment repeat certain movements in an automated manner by way of regulated tracks, could be controlled remotely via the internet.
UDG United Digital Group was responsible for the idea, concept and implementation of the live installation as well as the web special www.porsche.com/911ExclusiveSeries. The robot technology was from ABB Robotics, while RIF e.V. contributed the control programs.
UDG United Digital Group pocketed a second iF DESIGN AWARD for “Unyielding. The new 911 GT2 RS” – likewise for Porsche and in the Communication category. The web special uses videos and visual effects to describe the encounter between the sports car and parkour founder David Belle. It is designed in a way that allows users to dive into two parallel worlds. The change in perspective between David Belle and the 911 GT2 RS was achieved with a visual focus-shifting effect and can be controlled by moving a mouse or tilting a mobile device.
The competition at the 2018 iF DESIGN AWARD was immense, with more than 6,400 submissions from 54 countries vying for the globally renowned awards, which have been conferred for more than 60 years. The presentation of the awards was held on March 9, 2017, at BMW Welt in Munich.
